The day was ahead of me, full of expectation and happiness. Picture it with me…Drinking warm mulled wine whilst perusing the quaint wooden stalls at Bath Christmas Market for hand made Christmas stocking fillers and secretly hoping the next stall is laid with cheese and hog roast. Well…it didn’t fuckin happen.
Let’s start at the beginning…
Dan & I thought we would head to Bath Christmas Market, as we’ve not been before and we love the Birmingham Market. We thought it would be the perfect opportunity to drive through the Wiltshire Villages on the way through as Wiltshire is one of the places we are thinking of moving to when we buy our house. A small village in the county side, cottages, views, local shops and a strong community feel. Think The Holiday and Kate Winslet’s cottage… my dream home but place it within a little village.
We set off early & about 90 miles later we arrived in Wiltshire & scouted out some of the local villages. We absolutely fell in love with a place called Box & we think that’s were we want to be. Google it – it’s absolutely beautiful.
Score – we may have found our dream location!
With happy faces and excited souls we drove on to Bath for the Market. We knew we had to head to the Park & Ride and their were 3 options. Stupidly thinking, we thought there would be plenty of spaces… oh how we were wrong.
First car park … nothing. That’s fine we thought, the next one will have lots…. there was nothing there. I was beginning to get a sinking feeling, I wasn’t going to eat cheese. I wasn’t going to drink mulled wine. I wasn’t going to pick up a useless Knick knack and think “I love this but I won’t ever use it, fuck it I’ll buy it anyway”… surely the third car park will have some space. SURELY…
You’ve guessed it. It didn’t. Stupid fucking Bath Christmas Market.
Top Tip- Get to the Market Early or Stay Over for the Weekend. It is very busy & you could drive for 2 hours & not find a space…Don’t do an Abby. Abby is stupid.
By this point I needed a wee. I needed some food and more importantly I needed to feel some Christmas fucking joy, which I was severely lacking in.
We gave up and thought we would head back to Wiltshire & check out some more villages. We headed to Lacock, the National Trust Village which houses Lacock Abbey where the courtyard scenes in H Pizzle were filmed. Exciting.
Lacock was absolutely stunning. Fo the second time that day I fell in love with a place & it was now confirmed that Wiltshire is where we were meant to live and one day raise a family – our hearts just knew. 💜
Beautiful houses and little streets. It was so quintessentially British, it felt safe and like home.
We walked around for a while (after I wee’d), found a little cafe tucked around a corner and we stopped for lunch.
I had a Chai Tea, Egg Sandwich & Carrot Cake. YUM. It was delicious.
Look at all the CAKE there was so many to choose from.
It was so cute in there, decked out with Christmas decs, a tree, bells, tinsel and a roaring fire. It was lovely, warm and felt like a British Countryside Christmas.
After lunch we walked some more & find a little Christmas shop with a huge Potter sign outside… of course we went on. Rude not to.
At least there was a little bit of a Christmas Market feel here.
We walked to the Abbey but it was £10 each to get in, it was starting to rain and we had a long drive home – so we thought we would come back in the summer, do it properly and not rush through it
So yes, we didn’t get to go and see the Christmas market but actually we got much more… a glimpse of our future, where our kids will go to school, the local butchers where we will buy our meat and where we will house our future Christmases and welcome our families. We had the Christmas Gift of seeing our future and I can’t wait to get there ❤️
