Skin Care Routine|Updated

I love skin care. I don’t feel myself until I have woken up and completed my routine. There is something quite therapeutic about following a routine every morning and evening, it is my ritual, 5 minutes of self care twice a day and I feel so much better for it.

The difference in my skin since following a routine is incredible, it is tighter, clearer and brighter.

This is my routine & products used.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water – Combination & Sensitive Skin –  £3.39

img_3506

Micellar Cleansing Water is an easy way to remove make-up, cleanse and purify all areas of your face, including eyes and lips in 1 step without rinsing.
Features
Removes make-up + purifies + mattifies for combination & sensitive skin.*

I always take my Make Up off with a Micellar Water before I wash my face, as I don’t feel I have removed all my Make Up with just one cleanse. I use Micellar Water as it doesn’t leave any residue on my face, like some normal cleansers do – it just feels as if it is cleaned with cold water.

I use the Combination Micellar Water as I find it works better for my oily skin, however, if this one isn’t available I will use the normal one.

The Body Shop – Seaweed Deep Cleansing Wash – £8

img_3505

Cleanse your skin whilst rebalancing moisture levels, with our gentle seaweed face wash. Oil-free and soap-free, this face wash will effectively remove impurities, leaving a shine-free matte finish.
Suitable for combination/ oily skinMineral rich seaweed from Roaring Water Bay, Ireland
Soap free
Oil free
Refreshes skin*

I have used so many Cleansing Washes, High End, High Street, Supermarket and because I have oily skin, I really need to feel as if my face has been washed properly, and oil free which is exactly what this cleanser does.

This Seaweed Cleanser does exactly the same job as the Estèe Lauder Purifying Cleansing Jelly (Review of Collection Here) but it is half the price, which is amazing. After using my face feels so clean, leaves it tight, with a cool feeling and completely oil free. It has also lasted me over two months & I have a 1/4 of a tube left.

There is also something about using The Body Shop products that makes me feel good, I love their ethos, vision and their commitment to the environment.

Shake up radiance. Shake off shine.
A dual-phase clay-in-tonic blend to help support natural balance and recharge a fresh, healthy look and feel. Helps absorb oil, reduce shine and minimise the look of pores.
THE NUTRITIOUS MICRO-ALGAE COLLECTION
See your skin thrive. Skin looks fresh, not shiny. Pores appear minimised.  Crafted with cold-processed, nutrient-dense algae, this new high-potency collection awakens a natural, healthy-looking glow—instantly. Discover a new look of beautiful wellness for your skin.*
I have reviewed this product before in the link in the above section but this really is a great toner – I love the post face lift feeling after applying a toner and this does just that. However, it is £21… which for 2018 thrifty Abby is way too much. I have brought The Body Shop Seaweed Toner as its replacement, and if it is as good as the cleanser I will be happy.

The Ordinary – Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution – £6.80

img_3504
Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid that exfoliates the skin. This 7% toning solution offers mild exfoliation for improved skin radiance and visible clarity. The formula also improves the appearance of skin texture with continued use.
This formula contains a studied Tasmanian Pepperberry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with acid use. This derivative is of plant origin and varies in colour seasonally and this colour variation may be apparent in the formula from time to time. The formula is further supported with inclusion of ginseng root and aloe vera for both visible radiance and soothing benefits. Contraindications: This formula should not be used on sensitive, peeling or compromised skin. Please refer to additional sun protection note and other warnings in provided Directions.

This pH of this formula is approximately 3.6. Glycolic Acid has a pKa of 3.6 and pKa is the most important aspect to consider in formulating with acids. pKa implies acid availability. When pKa is close to pH, there is an ideal balance between salt and acidity, maximizing effectiveness of the acid and reducing irritation. Higher pH numbers in such a case would increase salt which counter-intuitively would make the formula even more irritating than if the formula was more acidic.

Note: While exfoliating acids can result in quick visible benefits, we generally suggest indirect forms of skin exfoliation in favour of direct forms such as this formula due to potential inflammation and sensitivity associated with acids. Please refer to NIOD’s Non-Acid Acid Precursor for such a reference. *

There is nothing Ordinary about this toner….I use this as my night time toner & it has completely changed my skin. I truly believe in the benefits of an acid toner, especially if you have oily or acne prone skin. Previously I have used Alpha H Liquid Gold, which is incredible but also very expensive, for £6.90 this Acid Toner does exactly the same job. The Ordinary are an amazing, affordable, a non comprising brand & I really recommend them. I haven’t used it, but there is a cult following for their Serum Foundation.

Clinically proven to reduce the number and intensity of dark spots
Lightweight texture, that quickly absorbs into the skin

Leaves skin plumped with moisture
Instantly skin looks brighter and more luminous
With regular use, skin appears smoother, more healthy and translucent, with an even tone.
Perfect for day and night*

I read such amazing reviews of this product but I’m just not sure it lives up to them…. yes it sinks into the skin amazingly, it feels refreshed and bright… but, is it worth £26… I am really not sure. I am not sure if there is a big difference in my skin before and after using it. I just don’t know & because of that I’m not sold on it. I really want to use the Farsali Volcanic Elixir as a comparison (that is on my wish list to purchase when I am in the states in April). This is the only product in my Skin Care Routine that I could take out & I don’t think I would notice the difference, which is such a shame as I was so looking forward to seeing some benefits.

The Body Shop – Seaweed Oil Control Cream – £13

img_3503

  • An effective line reducing eye treatment for brighter, younger-looking eyes
  • Contains a potent concentration of Pure Vitamin C 10.5%, known for its affinity with skin and powerful ability to improve the appearance of aging skin*

I had never really used an Eye Cream until I received this product in the Look Incredible Beauty Box (can you believe it, a £40 product in a beauty box!!). This product is super strong, and you can really feel it under your eyes – it makes your eyes water, it is that strong..

I have visibly noticed a difference in my under eyes, lines have reduced as have my bags. As this is the only cream I have used, I might hunt around and try others but I would 100% buy this again.

As this is quite powerful, I wouldn’t recommend it for young skin as I don’t think it is needed then. Late 20s and upwards I think this product is perfect for.

Has anybody tried any of these products? What do you recommend for oily skin? Is there any product I definitely need to try for my eyes?

  1. Going for #cleanskin2018 myself..so constantly searching for the best products, including those I got from my sister/dermatologist. I think I might checkout that seaweed line from The Body Shop. I have the same oily/combination skin – do you hate your T-zone too? hehe. Thanks for this, girl!
